Are you looking forward to four more years of the same bullshit, only with a different skin color?
The Obama that emerges from its pages is not, Mr Freddoso says, “a bad person. It’s just that he’s like all the rest of them. Not a reformer. Not a Messiah. Just like all the rest of them in Washington.” And the author makes a fairly compelling case that this is so. The best part of the book concentrates on Mr Obama’s record in Chicago, his home town and the place from which he was elected to the Illinois state Senate in 1996, before moving to the United States Senate in 2004. The book lays out in detail how this period began in a way that should shock some of Mr Obama’s supporters: he won the Democratic nomination for his Illinois seat by getting a team of lawyers to throw all the other candidates off the ballot on various technicalities. One of those he threw off was a veteran black politician, a woman who helped him get started in politics in the first place.

If Mr Obama really were the miracle-working, aisle-jumping, consensus-seeking new breed of politician his spin-doctors make him out to be, you would expect to see the evidence in these eight years. But there isn’t very much. Instead, as Mr Freddoso rather depressingly finds, Mr Obama spent the whole period without any visible sign of rocking the Democratic boat.

He was a staunch backer of Richard Daley, who as mayor failed to stem the corruption that has made Chicago one of America’s most notorious cities. Nor did he lift a finger against John Stroger and his son Todd, who succeeded his father as president of Cook County’s Board of Commissioners shortly before Stroger senior died last January. Cook County, where Chicago is located, has been extensively criticised for corrupt practices by a federally appointed judge, Julia Nowicki.

The full extent of Mr Obama’s close links with two toxic Chicago associates, a radical black preacher, Jeremiah Wright, and a crooked property developer, Antoin Rezko, is also laid out in detail. The Chicago section is probably the best part of the book, though the story continues: once he got to Washington, DC, Mr Obama’s record of voting with his party became one of the most solid in the capital. Mr Freddoso notes that he did little or nothing to help with some of the great bipartisan efforts of recent years, notably on immigration reform or in a complex battle over judicial nominations.

If you decide to influence the Democratic process, make it a choice that counts: 45acp, 22lr, .50, .30, .308 or 9mm.

And we'll be looking forward to four more years of the same bullshit if Obama is elected. WHAT IS YOUR GOD DAMN POINT?

If the rest of the world treats the USA differently because of the color of our president's skin, then the rest of the world is RACIST!

Man, fuck .22 Long Rifle. 10mm auto.
weev From: weev Date: September 23rd, 2008 06:35 pm (UTC) (link)
the 10mm is a great cartridge but good luck casting your own fucking ammo after the rapture. i prefer something that at least 5 of my associates are shooting.

I know, but I thought you were referring to popping specific people. Otherwise I would favor 9mm for being readily available and cheap. It is apples and oranges, but it's kind of a fun comparison.

Quick note - do you favor any particular assault rifles? I have no idea how you would test out burst-fire or automatic weapons without being a dealer or in the military, but I'm curious as to your opinion.

22lr is a GREAT cartridge for assassination. it is the hitman's choice of cartridge due to the fact that it has enough kinetic energy to enter the skull, but not enough to leave and bounces around inside scrambling people's brains. 22 caliber cartridges are involved in more cases of domestic gun death than all other cartridges combined.

in addition, the amount of forensic evidence that can be collected with a revolver murder is diminished-- the shell casing stays inside the revolver until emptied, and the barrel tracings it leaves on the bullet are much smaller. while the signature left on a bullet from a well-fired pistol is unlike any other and can easily be matched with a recovered murder weapon, a round fired from a short-barrel revolver has plausible deniability-- the barrel tracings could belong to hundreds of other revolvers.

if a 22 bullet is hollow point and fired from a short barreled revolver, it is impossible to match it with a recovered murder weapon

the more you know!

ive shot fullauto ak47 and an m16, both illegally modified.

honestly fullauto is only useful if you have a very large group and need to generate suppressing fire for the advancement of other group members, and only if your ammo is relatively unlimited. it is not something i would care to use, even if i could.

that's what people tell me. which did you prefer between the two, overall?
weev From: weev Date: September 23rd, 2008 07:45 pm (UTC) (link)
i prefer the ak47 on semiauto.
blue_star_cadet From: blue_star_cadet Date: September 23rd, 2008 08:26 pm (UTC) (link)
why is that?
weev From: weev Date: September 23rd, 2008 06:36 pm (UTC) (link)
also comparing a heavy pistol round to a utilitarian hunting and revolver round is sorta apples and oranges dude

When it comes to gun discussions, people like to dickwag rather than be practical.

As a native Chicagoan (but now a San Franciscan), the main thing making me lean behind Obama is precisely his sordid relations with the entire local political machine, which has succeeded in delivering a substantial amount of pork to my fair city. I'm sure he'd push their agenda from the bully pulpit of the presidency, which is fantastic if you like Chicago.

Chicago runs really well, if you count the neighborhoods where people like me would live. You can eat off the sidewalks. The city's having its biggest construction boom in decades. New parks are being built; it might get the olympics in 8 years; bike lanes sprouting all over the place.

What's there to complain about? Corruption is a way of life where I come from, and it gets things done. I've become complacent and cynical. Obama 4 prez!

Plus, he's played the identity politics card really hard with me as a homosexual. And he's "worse on Israel", but I've given up on that failed state. I'm sure he'll be disastrous for the economy, but I don't know if anyone can wreck it any further than it already is.
